Swedish architectural firm Belatchew Arkitekter has come up with Discus – a highly visible new tower that is located in the dynamic Nacka city center, which is part of the greater Stockholm metropolitan area – on behalf of Swedish real estate development company Sveafastigheter Utveckling.

Discus is a new remarkable building in Nacka City, the idea of which is based on irregular silhouette in a pyramid-like structure; it is intended to become the image of a developing Metropolitan area. Discus will be built amidst what will soon become Nacka’s new means of transport hub, directly over the metro station in the new city centre of Nacka.

Discus will comprise approximately 30 above-ground levels and will provide 450 to 500 apartments of various classifications, as well as commercial and any other publicly accessible areas, which will be active space.

Discus is a beautiful building in the middle of our new city with the entrance to the Metro on the ground floor, with beautiful views, with parks outside, offices inside, and apartments above. There will be a large public area in the building to give the site a new identity of contemporary and fun,” says Mats Gerdau, the Mayor of Nacka.

High rises are eye catching and so they must be fascinating to behold. This building will be the image of Nacka and therefore we want it to be an audacious building which is what Discus is to our mind, " says Gunilla Glantz, Director of Urban Planning, Nacka Municipality.

Discus is the first high rise in Nacka most central parts and with its consistent form the building will be an appealing addition to Nacka’s skyline. Discus clearly indicate an architectural direction that Nacka Municipality desires for future planning in Nacka City,” says Nina Åman, City Architect, Nacka Municipality.

Nacka is a visionary municipality who dared to try out a new type of urban structure wherein traditional neighborhood and tower blocks are integrated.” Public transport is highly important for the city of the future, and that we today, in Nacka’s most central part, can develop and put into practice our visions and concepts of the architecture for high frequency public transport is very inspiring, says Rahel Belatchew, CEO and Principal Architect, Belatchew Arkitekter.

About Nacka City

Nacka City is the name of the new, highly dense, misc-en-place urban centre that has just begun development in Nacka, a southern suburb of Stockholm. Another three stations are planned for 2025 when the metro line will be further expanded to Nacka. With new constructions of homes 14,000 more new homes and 10,000 more workplaces will be established in Nacka City within the year 2030, the population of Nacka will increase from 100,000 to 140,000. Nacka City is intended to be a friendly and creative neighbor to Stockholm – urban residence and business center.
