The keypad locks also provide higher security than the traditional key system since they come with a different hardware design compared to other types of locks. Again these locks are more durable than conventional locks.

Moreover, the locks are easy to install, and you will not need to make major adjustments to your doors or door frames. Again mechanical and battery-powered keypad locks are also available, which will not need a connection to a power source.

With that understanding, let's now look at the best keypad door locks you can purchase for practical and efficient usage.

1. Mechanical Code Locks

A mechanical code lock is cheaper than electronic models and does not need an external power source to function. This means they don't have additional costs after installation. The limitation of these locks is that they may have certain limitations regarding added features, functionality, and durability.

2. Electronic Keypad Locks

Electronic keyless door locks or the electronic door entry system function similarly to mechanical ones but need a constant power source. They mostly use a battery pack or are wired-in mains supply. The main advantage is they have more advanced features.

3. Panic Keypad Lock

Panic keypad locks are the locks that are used to allow access to fire doors in case of an emergency. Like the mechanical and electronic keypads, these locks are designed for easy access without compromising security. In addition, the locks enable controlled access to buildings, rooms, or areas using a coded entry sequence.

What Factors Should I Consider When Purchasing The Best Keypad Door Locks?

1. Security Grade

As a basic requirement, it is crucial to consider the security grade of the security system you choose. Even though all door locks provide security, the amount of security they offer varies across grades. There are three main grades: grades 1, 2, and 3.

A) ANSI Grade 1

Grade locks are usually designed for commercial settings, but homeowners can also use them. They typically offer the highest performance and are the strongest and most durable locks on the market. These locks are also specifically designed for superior security and high traffic.

B) ANSI Grade 2

Grade 2 are high residential security or low commercial grade locks designed to offer superior security and durability for homes and light commercial. However, it is necessary to note that these locks are not as durable and secure as the Grade 1 locks.

C) ANSI Grade 3

Grade 3 locks meet the lowest accepted ANSI/BHMA certification standards. In most cases, they are considered the basic hardware locks for non-high security situations. Although the locks are cheap, they are best suited for residential applications only.

It's necessary to know that not all keypad door locks have ANSI/BHMA certification. So, it should be a priority to get a lock with an ANSI-grade lock.

2. Power Source

Most keypad door locks do not usually have a constant hardwired power source. Therefore, choosing a rechargeable or swappable battery is another key consideration. Both battery options are great, but they all have their downsides.

The rechargeable batteries usually pop out of the lock, and you can plug them into a charger. When the battery is fully charged, you will place them back into the lock. The good thing is that the battery life of the rechargeable batteries is a bit high. However, they may take time to charge and may be inconvenient.

The swappable batteries are more convenient and are ideal for a fast change. Similar to rechargeable batteries, they will pop up easily, and you replace them with a new set of batteries.

3. Touch Screen Or Buttons

One of the major decisions you will require to make when purchasing the best keypad door locks is if they use touch screens or buttons. Both styles have their benefits and disadvantages, so you must pick the one that suits your need best.

First off, the touch screen locks are usually smooth and sleek. These best smart locks light up when touched and display a view of digits for you to enter your combination. In addition, they add the convenience of using access codes to lock and unlock entry or back doors.

Amazingly, these keyless locks are available in various styles and finish to match your home's aesthetic. These locks are a bit hard to see, especially during the day, but they will work great at night. But, again, they are more expensive than the button locks.

On the other hand, the button keypad door locks are more affordable and offer easy access. These locks provide tactile feedback to know when you have successfully entered your code. They are easy to see and use during the day, but they can be tricky during the night if you don't have a backlight.

4. Connectivity

Most keypad door locks have smart connectivity but don't all function similarly. The smart keypad door locks will give you greater control, allowing you to lock and unlock your door locks remotely.

Amazingly, they allow you to add or remove access codes or even access your logs anytime you wish. Some of the aspects to look for in terms of connectivity include:

A) Biometrics

Smart devices with biometric features usually use fingerprints to provide access. When the lock is fully programmed, you will only need to place your finger on the touchpad, and the lock will automatically lock or unlock your door.

B) Bluetooth

Bluetooth-enabled locks will enable you to connect to your smart devices. The connectivity of the locks varies based on the size of your home or its layout. The amazing thing about getting a Bluetooth-enabled device is that the smart locks will sense your approach and automatically unlock your door.

C) Wi-Fi

Wi-Fi smart locks use your home internet service to control the door lock. These door locks allow you to view entry and exit logs in real-time, meaning you can know when someone comes in or leaves your front door. This is an important feature, especially for parents who want to ensure their kids have arrived home safely from school.

5. Reputable Manufacturer Or Brand

With the security of your home or business at stake, it is necessary to ensure that you get keypad locks from reputable brands. So before you even make a purchase, we advise that you research more about the brand you are to purchase from.

Choose from a brand with great customer service, credible warranties, and good product availability. You should avoid purchasing from unknown manufacturers with no websites or even apparent phone numbers.

6. Price

Before purchasing any smart devices, it is important to create a budget, so you can purchase a product that fits your budget. To ensure you get the best deals, it is necessary that you look at the different options you have to know the different prices that come in. This will help you get an idea of the market's current status. Then, fix your price range in line with your knowledge.
