During his dialogue, Michael Murphy, a co-founder of the MASS Design Group talks about how architecture can be utilized in positive ways to promote physical and mental health. He explains how during the construction of exceptional structures such as Rwanda’s Butaro Hospital aimed at speeding up the healing process, Haiti’s Gheskio Treatment Centre for the prevention and treatment of cholera, MASS took time to analyze different factors.
The discussion also looks at such facilities as the Maternity Waiting Village in Malawi for prevention of high rate of early baby deaths, the Ilima Conservation School in the DRC for conservation of endangered species, and the Centre for Deaf and Cultures in Washington D.C. for improving on methods of communication among humans.
Murphy’s dialogue finally ponders on a what, a why and a where of a Memorial to Peace and Injustice in Montgomery inspiring people to courageously face the American problem of race prejudice hitherto mostly unpublished.
